This figure shows optimal positioning of the hardware in the proximal and distal femur. A: In order to define the optimal position of the nail distally, we virtually divided the distal femoral epiphysis into three compartments. A good positioning was defined as the distal end of the male rod passing through the middle compartment of the epiphysis on AP (left) and lateral (right) X-rays. B: Proximally, the position was considered optimal when the female rod exited through the femoral neck.
